The Marble Falls Economic Develop - ment Corporation ap - proved two applications for community projects during its recent meeting.
All seven EDC direc - tors were present during the meeting Nov. 6 at city hall. First, the panel ap - proved the "community leverage program appli - cation" of $30,000 for the non-profit Marble Falls Inclusive Play Group to continue its develop - ment of an "all-abilities playground" in Westside Park at 1610 Second St. The park features special amenities to ac - commodate children with wheelchairs and other disabilities.
"Playing together is crucial to child develop - ment," Group represen - tative Taylor Smith told the EDC directors. "Our group is going to build a place where children of all abilities can play together." Total funding for the playground over onethird of 1 acre may cost more than $1 million, Smith added. Besides the EDC, the group hopes to receive more funds from large donors, golf tournaments and other fund-raising events during upcoming weeks, Smith said. If all goes as planned, construction of the play - ground could begin sometime next summer, he added. Because he is one of the Play Group board members, EDC Direc - tor John Packer stepped away from fellow EDC directors to sit with at - tendees as the rest of the EDC board heard Smith speak. After brief discus - sion, the board voted 6-0 to grant the application.
