County voter turnout heavy during recent election

Burnet County registered voters turned out in record droves during the recent election. According to unofficial county election records, more than 70% of more than 38,000 registered voters cast ballots during the national, state and local elections which finished during Election Day, Nov.

According to unofficial county election records, more than 70% of more than 38,000 registered voters cast ballots during the national, state and local elections which finished during Election Day, Nov. 5. That is more than 28,000 partici - pants, including absentee, early bird and Election Day voters, County Elections Administrator Doug Fer guson told The Highlander.

"That is a big number of people," Ferguson said. "More than we voted before ever." Only 20 of 254 Texas counties recorded turnouts higher than Bur - net County, according to the Texas Secretary of State. The greatest number of coun - ty voters visited the polls during early voting period from Oct. 21 through Nov. 1, Ferguson recalled.
