The annual appearance of sculptors carving ice in the Old Oak Square brings together tradition, creativity and the technical talents of artisans in an entertaining, inspirational and educational presentation of skill and showmanship.
Saturday, Dec. 7, between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m., at 305 Main St. in Marble Falls, while you watch or perhaps even participate, sculpting artists will transform frozen blocks of ice into wonderful, if temporary, works of art.
A pop-up gallery featuring a collection of sculptures in a variety of media, also including clay and paint, from hometown artists and artisans will encourage and inspire and involve all ages in the creative process.
Of course, many of the selected pieces will be for sale so you can take your memories home with you.
Adding to the atmosphere will be live music; live performances the whole day will keep you tuned in to the vibe.
Worth noting is that the exhibitions, the artists, the music and the celebration are all free.
One of the invited sculptors is Burnet local Kim Timmons, who works in a multitude of mediums – blown glass, ceramics, oil, watercolor, pastel, and batik. Her master of art in art education from Texas Tech led to her work as a graphic and portrait artist and for 30 years, a teacher. Her students have received scholarships, and the opportunity to study abroad. With her studio and glass shop in Burnet, she is able to continue her art education for the general public.
Another working sculptor, Marian Williams, works and teaches with clay at Baylor University. Her pots and ceramics evidence her skills, achieved through training with internationally renowned ceramic artists. She blogs about her experiences at https://marianwilliams- blog.tumblr.com/ Come to Old Oak Square on Dec. 7, during the Christmas Market on Main, to celebrate the art of sculpturing with family- friendly activities, mesmerizing live ice sculpture carving, a popup art exhibit, and an art sale filled with unique pieces. You’ll also find great shopping and dining options, all in the square.
