September 3, 1925 - December 1, 2024
Arnold Javan Holden, 99 years old, of Austin, TX sadly left our world on December 1, 2024. He was a beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather and WWII Veteran. Arnold was born in Austin, Texas on September 3, 1925 as the youngest and eleventh child of Richard Franklin and Dora Jackson Holden. He lived a life of dedication, service and love. Proudly serving his country in World War II.
Arnold married Lucille Marie Dittmar on August 8, 1944 in Austin. They celebrated over 78 years of marriage. Arnold was a loving and caring father to his three daughters, followed by five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
He was a member of the Travis County Sheriff’s Posse for over 20 years and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Onion Creek Masonic Lodge. Arnold was a master mason for 67 years. He retired after 40 years at Charles Maund Oldsmobile-Cadillac in Austin.
In 2018 Arnold attended the Honor Flight in Washington DC and a plaque is displayed to commemorate Arnold’s service to his country in Fredericksburg, Texas at the US Nimitz National Museum of the Pacific War.
Arnold is preceded in death by his wife Lucille, daughter Donna Norton, son-in-law Rick Norton, parents Frank and Dora Jackson Holden and all ten of his siblings.
Arnold is survived by daughters Kaye Brown (Dennis), and Sherry Williams; grandchildren Troy Brown (Janna), Kimberly Poe (Chris), Tamara Willmann (Steve), Justin Norton (Kelly) and Jeremy Norton (Kim); great grandchildren Ethan Poe, Abigayle Poe, Dillon Brown, Sterling Brown, Sarah Willmann, Anna Willmann, Jackson Norton, Jared Norton and Makenna Norton. Arnold is also survived by sisters-in-law Laura Hunter, Carolyn Hemphill and Pat Dittmar, as well as numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
We wish to give special thanks and recognition to the caregivers and staff at the Isle at Cedar Ridge for their love and care.
A memorial service was held December 6, 2024 at Manchaca Baptist Church. The graveside service was held at Boggy Creek Masonic Cemetery with Navy honors.
