Texas Files SCOTUS Brief in pornographic website age verification lawsuit

Texas filed a brief with the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) on November 26 requesting that it uphold a state law requiring pornography websites to use age verification measures to prevent the exposure of sexual material to minors.
The pornography platforms, including Pornhub, alleged that implementation of HB 1181 would be a violation of the First Amendment. Contributed/Daniel Friend/The Texan

Texas filed a brief with the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) on November 26 requesting that it uphold a state law requiring pornography websites to use age verification measures to prevent the exposure of sexual material to minors.

SCOTUS will hear arguments from Texas on January 15 of next year.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has been exchanging blows with multiple pornography companies since the passage of House Bill (HB) 1181 in 2023, which requires websites that intentionally publish “sexual material harmful to minors” to verify the user’s identity through digital identification or a third-party system that uses government-issued identification, or else be subject to fines and penalties.
