An unidentified man was taken to the hospital, following a standoff lasting over an hour near a park in Marble Falls.

The incident unfolded around 2:30 p.m. Jan. 16 in the 1500 block of Second Street, just west of Avenue Nf

Police confirmed that Marble Falls police initially attempted a traffic stop on Industrial Boulevard. Authorities soon discovered the male behind the wheel was allegedly armed.
“A bondsman contacted one of our police officers and notified them of a wanted fugitive traveling in Marble Falls in a 2010 black Ford F150,” according to Marble Falls Police Capt. James Cole. “The suspect was a 59 year old white male out of Spicewood, TX and he had a drug related failure to appear warrant out of Llano County.

“The suspect would not pull over and a short vehicle pursuit ensued.”

During the incident, nearby intersections were blocked off.

“The vehicle was contained to a small area and it would not have been able to leave.  All traffic approaching was diverted,” Cole continued. “There was a park but it was not busy.

“The people that were in/around the park were asked to leave and they did without any confrontation,” he added.

Police say shortly thereafter the driver became a threat to himself.

“While seated in the vehicle, the suspect pulled out a firearm, put it to his chest, and threatened suicide,” Cole stated.

Assisting agencies included the Department of Public Safety, Marble Falls Fire Rescue, Marble Falls Area EMS, Granite Shoals Police Department, Burnet County precinct 4 constable and the Burnet County Sheriff’s Office.

“Officers were able to get the suspect to surrender peacefully,” Cole stated. The driver was taken to Seton Highland Lakes to be treated for non-life threatening issues. Police confirmed he was not taken to jail, however, warrants for his arrest remains active.

“He will also be charged with evading in a vehicle and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon,” Cole stated.
