June 7, 1931 — January 11, 2025

Roy John Ginder, known affectionately as Roy, passed away peacefully on January 11, 2025, in Highland Haven, Texas, at the age of 93. Born on June 7, 1931, in Alamosa, Colorado, Roy’s life was marked by dedication to his country, love for his family, and a passion for the simple pleasures in life.

Roy’s journey began in the scenic town of Alamosa, where he spent his early years before attending Adam State University for two years. His commitment to service was evident early on, as he joined the United States Air Force, where he would honorably serve for 27 years. During his distinguished military career, Roy attended the USAF Commanders Leadership Training, I.G. Inspector School, PACAF Jungle Survival School, Special Operations Force Training, USAF Fighter Training, Instrument training, and numerous aviation and leadership courses. His service included pivotal roles in the Korean and Vietnam Wars, and he was a respected base commander at Webb Air Force Base in Big Springs, Texas, Randolph Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas, and Commander of the 14th Flying Wing at Columbus Air Force Base in Columbus, Mississippi.

Roy’s legacy is carried on by his loving family, who remember him as a pillar of strength and kindness. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, M. Jevene Ginder and his sister Janice Lasalle. Roy is survived by his son, Daniel Ginder and his wife Jennifer, and daughter, Janis Mastran. His grandchildren, Amy Partridge and Bruce Partridge, along with his greatgrandchildren, John Partridge, Miranda Partridge, and his granddaughter Crista Crittenden and her husband David, great-granddaughter Jenna Crittenden, will forever cherish the memories and lessons he imparted.

After retiring from the Air Force, Roy settled in the Highland Lakes of Texas with his wife, Jevene. There, he immersed himself in the community and the natural beauty of the area. An avid fisherman and golfer, Roy could often be found on the serene waters of the lakes or the lush greens of the golf courses. He was also a fervent supporter of Texas sports, bringing his characteristic enthusiasm and humor to every game he watched.

Roy was a quiet man, but his silence spoke volumes about his character. He was a man of unwavering integrity, whose actions consistently demonstrated his deep loyalty to his family, his friends, and his country. His love was not always spoken aloud but shown in the subtle, steadfast ways that left an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to know him. Roy embodied strength, humility, and a commitment to doing what was right, no matter the circumstance.

A framed poem hung in his house that perfectly captured his spirit: “A wise old owl lived in a tree, The more he saw, the less he spoke.

The less he spoke, the more he heard.

Why can’t we all be like that bird.”

Even in his final moments, Roy’s words reflected his peaceful and contented spirit. Surrounded by love, he said, “I can die a happy man, I have no worries.” These words serve as a testament to a life well-lived, one filled with purpose, love, and a quiet joy that will forever inspire those who knew him.

Roy’s life will be honored in on Sunday, January 19, 2025 at Highland Lakes Seventh day Adventist Church in Granite Shoals, Texas, where his family and close friends will gather to share stories, reflect on the happy times spent together, and commemorate a remarkable man whose impact will be felt for generations to come. Roy’s journey on earth has ended, but his spirit remains a guiding light for all who loved him.

Roy’s care entrusted to Harrell Funeral Home of Kingsland, Texas
