April 3, 1951 —January 19, 2025
Kay Lynn (Finley) Murray, 73, passed away peacefully on January 19, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Born on April 3, 1951, in Midland, Texas, Lynn was a devoted wife, loving mother, adoring sister and cherished grandmother and aunt, whose warmth and kindness touched the lives of all who knew her.
Lynn’s spirit was characterized by her unwavering devotion to her family and her ability to make everyone feel special. She had a gift for bringing people together, creating beautiful landscaping, decorating and lasting memories that will be cherished by all. Her laughter, passion and love will be profoundly missed but will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
Through a long, fierce battle with cancer and all her trials and suffering, her faith in our Lord and Savior never wavered; her soul and faith endured and remained strong. Lynn professed her life to Christ at an early age, was baptized at Crestview Baptist Church and faithfully walked the path that she felt the Lord desired. Her family moved from Midland, Texas to Dallas and eventually settled in Austin.
Lynn graduated from Lanier High School in Austin in 1969, where she was a featured twirler in the band. After years of hard work and dedication in the Girls Auxiliary (GA’s program) at Crestview Baptist, Lynn was named Queen Regent.
In 1974, Lynn married Roy Lee Murray in Austin, Texas. Shortly thereafter, they moved to Burnet, Texas to start their family and new pharmacy business. Two children were born from this union, Grant Mitchell Murray and Clint Landon Murray. Lynn served in many roles throughout her life. Professionally, she worked for IBM in Austin. After marriage, she became a business partner and co-owner of several medical ventures with her husband Roy, including Lakes Area Pharmacy in Burnet, Texas, and Lakes Medical in Austin, Texas. Notably, Lynn had the vision to open Lakes Women’s Boutique through her passion to help women with their needs during breast cancer treatments. Other business ventures that would come later would include Laserwash of Copperas Cove and Harker Heights, Texas and Bulldog Ice (Twice the Ice) of Burnet with locations that span the entire hill country. Lynn was most proud of her decision to go back to the University of Texas at the age of 54 to pursue her dream of completing her bachelor’s degree in liberal arts where she graduated in 2005.
Personally, she was a devoted wife, a loving mother, a proud grandmother, a dedicated sister, aunt and loyal friend. Lynn served prison ministry at the Ellen Halbert Unit in Burnet as well as women’s Bible Study at Hill Country Fellowship. She was also a member of the Epsilon Pi Sorority. Lynn enjoyed spending time with family, attending UT football games with her husband Roy, cheering for her grandsons at sporting events, baking pies and decorating Christmas cookies. She loved implementing family traditions involving the gifting of Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory candy apples, sprinkling gummy root beers in stockings at Christmastime, making her mother’s famous Thanksgiving turkey dressing, bowing heads and joining hands to say grace before meals. She loved dancing, traveling, being pampered, and having friends and family out to the ranch. She enjoyed watching her grandsons ride their allterrain vehicles around and through the trails surrounding her home, watching her sons and grandsons drive the tractor as they mowed and worked the land, adopting and adoring her ranch kitties that over the years labored and yielded many litters, and, of course, feeding carrots to her grandson, Rhett’s, donkey, Jenny. She loved gardening ferociously, with an emphasis on flowers especially. She spent time carefully selecting and perfecting placement, color, and species always with a clear vision of how she would fill the front flower beds with an explosion of color and deeply rooted plants that would occupy the beds preluding her welcoming front door. She loved reading her bible, spending time in fellowship with her bible study group, going to church regularly, and praying devoutly for the people she loved and held dear to her heart.
Lynn is preceded in death by her parents, Robert Dalton Finley, Jr. and Bertie Ruth Finley; her brother, Robert (Bobby) Dalton Finley, III; grandparents Fannie Francis and Samuel Kay Morris, Clara and Robert Dalton (Doss) Finley and nephew Matthew Malone.
Lynn leaves to cherish her loving memory her husband Roy Lee, their children, Grant Mitchell, wife Amy Murray, sons Rhett and Brooks; Clint Murray, wife Liz Murray, sons Dolton Lee, Garland Grey, and Edwin Nash. They will carry forward her legacy of compassion and strength. Lynn was such a proud grandmother to five grandchildren who brought immense joy to her life.

The family extends its thanks to the medical staff at Baylor Medical Houston, Ascension Seton Highland Lakes, Texas Oncology, and New Century Hospice. Their caregiver, Teresa Hartline, has been an inspirational gift from God whose initial role was to care for Roy, but as Lynn’s needs increased, Teresa stepped in to care for Lynn as well. Also, all of Lynn’s special loving friends that have provided aid and support.
