An investigation is underway following the death of a toddler in an RV fire in southeast Burnet County.
Spicewood Fire Rescue/ESD #9 Fire Marshal Derrick Curtis reported that crews responded following a 9-1-1 call at 4:18 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 22.
Burnet County Sheriff's Office Capt. Mike Sorenson confirmed the incident unfolded in the 500 block of Deerpath Way, off Texas 71 in Spicewood. Sorenson said that a heater may have been to blame in after a preliminary assessment of the cause.
The Spicewood fire marshal offered details about the scene of the structure fire.
“Upon arrival the trailer was fully involved (in flames) with no livable space,” Curtis said.
BCSO and State Fire Marshal's Office personnel responded to the scene and launched an investigation.
A 4-year-old girl died at the scene, Curtis said, and two unidentified adults were treated for “minor burns.” Next of kin has been notified of the child's death.
Pedernales Fire Rescue/Travis ESD #8 and Horseshoe Bay Fire Rescue assisted at the scene.
Following the little girl's death, an outpouring of community support surfaced online.
Family friend Tami Vaughn commented on a fundraising effort for the little girl's family.
“Sweet Isabella (Izzy), at only 4 years old, passed away due to a house fire,” Vaughn wrote. “We are all in shock & are devastated.”
As of Jan. 24, the fundraising effort has raised $5,000 towards funeral and other family expenses.
