January 8, 1932 —February 4, 2025
Alta Estella Hudson Bruns passed on to be with our Lord on February 4, 2025, at the age of 93. Born in Creedmore, Texas on January 8, 1932, the daughter of Jacob Hudson and Alta Green Hudson.
It is impossible to put in a few words how much Mom (Gma) meant to our family and the many lives she touched in her beautiful 93 years with us. She always enjoyed our many family reunions no matter what the size of the gathering (usually at their home) held through the years. She made sure a great time was had by all and always kept the conversations lively.
After WWII, Estella met her future husband, Theodore C. “T.C.” Bruns, while working in Frasier’s café in Marble Falls. They married on August 2, 1949. She is preceded in death by her parents, 5 siblings, daughter Alta Helena Bruns Patterson, grandson Theodore Carl Bruns, and husband Theodore Bruns.
Estella was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. In the 1950’s and1960’s, she owned Stella’s beauty salon on Main Street in downtown Marble Falls and later served as a Cosmetology teacher in Austin retiring after 20 plus years with the Austin Independent School District. She was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church.
Aside from her family, she had a passion for teaching cosmetology at AISD, and it showed with lasting effects she had on many students throughout the Austin area. She enjoyed taking them to various competitions and was always proud of their accomplishments, staying in contact with several students.
Survived by, son, Tommy Carl Bruns; daughters, Karen Estella Ann Butler (née Bruns) and Cheryl Katherine Maddux (née Bruns) and her husband Roy; granddaughters Joan Maddux, Marcy Martinez (nee Bruns), Ruth Mayoral (née Bruns) and her husband Beto, and Tommi Vanrisseghem (née Bruns) and her husband Robert; grandsons Daniel Butler and his wife Linda, Steven Maddux and his wife Bridget, and Michael Scott Butler and his wife Sarah; 13 greatgrandchildren; 2 great-greatgrandchildren; and numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Ovarian Cancer Research in Estella’s memory.
