Three people reportedly died in a multiple vehicle crash in Blanco County March 5 just north of Johnson City on U.S. 281.
Emergency crews were called to U.S. 281 at Ranch Road 1323 for a vehicle accident around noon.
Three people – two adult and one pediatric patient were pronounced dead on the scene “after extensive resuscitative efforts in the field, including the administration of blood products,” according to North Blanco County EMS.
On initial response, six people were listed as “critically injured” with some being pinned into their vehicles, according to the social media page of North County Blanco EMS.
“The first units began arriving at 12:12 pm and found a major 3-vehicle accident with 6-7 critically injured patients, including multiple pin-in’s and the call was immediately upgraded to a Mass Casualty Alarm, which triggers a much larger response as well as prepares our regional hospitals and trauma centers to begin receiving multiple critically injured patients at once,” the agency reported. “Over 45 public safety units rapidly responded to the scene, including (4) ground ambulances and (4) helicopters and multiple command units.
“Ultimately, (2) patients were transported by helicopter to a regional trauma center, (1) patient was transported by ground to a regional trauma center.”
The crash is under investigation by the Texas Department of Public Safety.
