The Marble Falls ISD Board of Trustees meeting in February was a celebration of excellence, highlighting the achievements of students, educators, and staff who continue to make a lasting impact in the district. Four outstanding individuals were recognized with prestigious awards for their dedication, leadership and commitment to student success.
Superintendent’s Award Marble Falls Middle School Principal Rudy Gonzalez introduced eighth-grade students Emmerson Ramos and Travis Lutz as the February Superintendent Award recipients. Both students were honored for their positive impact on campus, as reflected in glowing remarks from their teachers and peers. Their leadership, kindness, and dedication to their school community exemplify the core values of Marble Falls ISD.
Teachers and peers shared heartfelt comments about Emmerson Ramos,, describing her as a natural leader, a role model, and a source of positivity for those around her. Natalie Powell, her English and language arts teacher, praised her for her kindness, tenacity, and unwavering commitment to doing what is right, while other teachers highlighted her strong work ethic, ability to advocate for herself, and positive influence on campus. Friends also spoke highly of her ability to inspire and support others, noting her contagious joy and leadership.
Similarly, Travis Lutz was recognized for his maturity, self-advocacy, and strong work ethic. Teachers emphasized his dedication to academic excellence, his kindness toward peers, and his leadership in extracurricular activities. One teacher shared a touching story about his efforts to support a younger student, demonstrating his character and commitment to fostering a welcoming school environment.
GEM Award
Marble Falls Middle School teacher Shelley Cochran was recognized with the Going the Extra Mile (GEM) Award for her unwavering dedication to her students and the positive influence she has on the entire campus. Colleagues described her as a true inspiration and a leader in the special education department. They highlighted her ability to support both students and fellow educators, her positive and uplifting attitude, and her dedication to making learning accessible for all students. Many spoke of her as the “glue” that holds the team together, a mentor, and a champion for student success.
Spotlight on Excellence The February Spotlight on Excellence Award was presented to Thomas Jacobs in recognition of his outstanding service that extends far beyond the school district and into the broader community. In addition to his work in the district’s maintenance department, Thomas Jacobs was recognized for his dedication as a volunteer firefighter and for his efforts in helping communities affected by wildfires in California. His selfless service, commitment to helping others, and ability to balance multiple responsibilities with excellence were praised by colleagues and district leaders. Jacobs expressed his gratitude, stating, “I couldn’t do this without the incredible support from my school district community, my firefighter community, and my family. Their encouragement allows me to serve both in my job and in volunteer work, knowing I have a strong foundation behind me.”
Spotlight on Engagement
Emily Mendoza, a health science teacher, was praised for her highly interactive and hands-on teaching methods, which inspire students to pursue careers in healthcare. From anatomy and physiology labs to creative classroom projects, she continuously finds ways to engage students in meaningful learning experiences. Additionally, her willingness to write grants to further innovate her teaching was highlighted as a testament to her commitment to education. Her passion for education and dedication to student success set her apart as a leader in the classroom.
