Complaint riddled plant probe underway

Work to improve a Granite Shoals private wastewater treatment plant is underway and on schedule.

That is according to a report March 11 to city council members by Assistant City Manager and Fire Chief Tim Campbell.

The work should be finished in four to six months, Campbell said.

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) found several alleged violations in the operations of Aqua Texas Inc. in 2021 after nearby residents complained of smells.

City officials sent a complaint to TCEQ after residents approached city hall administrators.

The plant, between Lakecrest Drive and Moss Drive, serves residents of that area including in the Tropical Hideaway condominiums.

The city manager at that time, Jeff Looney, told council members that though the private plant operates in the city limits, the municipality has no jurisdiction over it. Nevertheless, the city filed the

TCEQ complaint on behalf of its citizens.

Campbell told the council Tuesday that the only hitch so far was when Aqua Tex plans included a building taller than residents were happy with.

The company has redesigned the building, Campbell revealed.
