Lawmakers consider school funding, gambling

There was no city council meeting last night. It will take place next Tuesday. So, today I’d like to discuss two issues before the state legislature that have garnered a fair share of interest, school choice and legalized gambling. I am not using this column, however, to take an advocacy position.

Senate Bill 2, dealing with school choice, has already passed the state Senate.

Most of us are aware that many of the poor – frequently inner city schools — are under performing and possibly unsafe for a variety of reasons.
