Marble Falls City Council plans to complete its second and final
reading of several proposed amendments to the budget during its upcoming meeting.
Council members plan to examine proposed changes to the Fiscal Year 2025 budget during tonight’s April 15 meeting at city hall, 800 Third Street.
According to city officials, the amendments
are needed to account for new estimates of expenses since council adopted the budget last Oct. 1.
If approved by the council, the budget alterations will serve to cover increased expenses for the general, utility, hotel/ motel funds, hotel conference center and Economic Development Corporation (EDC) accounts through FY 2025 by an average of 2% at more than $950,000 total.
One critical adjustment to the budget includes the increase of $140,000 for the police department animal control services division.
Other higher-than-anticipated expenses in- clude one increase to the utility fund of $243,500 to cover the cost of waterline repair to the Lake Marble Falls Bridge and another increase of more than $188,000 to the utility fund for the relocation of a waterline at Broadway.
City records indicate none of the proposed budget changes pose any threat to any fund balance through Sept. 30, when FY 2025 ends.
Also during the meeting, the council will hear updates from Marble Falls Independent School District Superintendent Jeff Gasaway, Development Services Director Scarlet Moreno and City Engineer Jeff Prato.
During the consent agenda (several items approved in one vote), the council is expected to approve the:
• Allocation of $15,000 from the Hotel Occupancy Tax (HOT) Local Assistance FY 2025 fund for the spring FiestaJam;
• Contract with Cogent Bank to finance the
purchase of equipment, vehicles and facility improvements at the total price of more than $1.4 million at the interest rate of 3.99%. According to city records, Cogent was the lowest bidder among four other bids for the contract; and
• Contract with the KDK Group at more than $161,000 to remove and replace the heating, ventilation and air-conditioning system at the Lakeside Pavilion.
