Hundreds of Lower Colorado River Authority employees rolled up their sleeves on Friday, April 11, to volunteer on dozens of community projects across parts of Texas during LCRA’s annual day of service, Steps Forward Day.
In Burnet and Llano counties, LCRA employees painted the exterior of the Lake Buchanan/ Inks Lake Chamber of Commerce & Visitor Center and stained its observation deck; removed invasive plants at Horseshoe Bay Nature Park; and re-striped the parking lot at the Highland Lakes Senior Activity Center in Kingsland.
In Marble Falls, volunteers added plants, mulch and a drip-irrigation system to the flower beds
outside city hall; picked up litter and trimmed trees in the downtown area; and planted drought-tolerant landscaping by signage for the city’s business park.
City of Marble Falls employees helped with the landscaping project at city hall. Pedernales Electric Cooperative volunteers helped with the downtown Marble Falls project.
Other Steps Forward Day projects ranged from planting a pollinator garden at Stagecoach Park in Buda to painting the exterior of the police annex building in Shiner to adding mulch to the playground area at Hempstead City Park in Hempstead.
“We started Steps Forward Day 10 years ago as a way to give back to Texas communities,” LCRA General Manager Phil Wilson said. “Today, that journey continues stronger than ever. This year, more than 700 employees volunteered to work on projects communities may not have the time or resources to complete on their own.”
Steps Forward Day continues LCRA’s long-standing commitment to service.
“It’s all about making a difference in the communities we serve and supporting our fellow Texans,” Wilson said. “This is community service in action.”
This year, LCRA employees volunteered on 40 Steps Forward Day projects in 35 communities: Bastrop, Bay City, Brady, Brenham, Buchanan Dam, Buda, Columbus, Cuero, Dripping Springs, Flatonia, Fredericksburg, Giddings, Goldthwaite, Hempstead, Horseshoe Bay, Kingsland, Kyle, La Grange, Lexington, Liberty Hill, Lockhart, Luling, Marble Falls, Mason, McCamey, Pflugerville, Round Rock, San Angelo, San Marcos, San Saba, Schulenburg, Shiner, Smithville, Weimar and Wimberley.
