Recently, the Central Texas Groundwater Conservation District hired water law attorney Sarah Faust to facilitate special volunteer committee meetings to deliberate the potential establishment of a Northeast Burnet County Groundwater Management Zone.

During future weeks, the 11-member committee plans to meet as required to help board members decide if ongoing use of the Trinity Aquifer (the major source of groundwater for the Briggs-Oakalla area) must be monitored more thoroughly.

, 225 S. Pierce St. near the county courthouse, CTGCD General Manager Mitchell Sodek told the Highlander.

Committee members include Michael Fau-

Water rie, Garry Harrell, Suzanne Gasparotto, Aaron Games, Kassandra Gongora, Clint Tomlinson, Chris Weir, Gerrie McCall, Andrew Kiss, Steve Schlumpberger and Jeremy Smith.

Because of space limitations at headquarters, the May 22 meeting is intended only for committee and district staff members, Sodek told The Highlander.

At some future time, possibly during August or September, the committee plans to present its “list of recommendations” to district board members possibly during “a large public gathering” possibly at the Oakalla Community

Center, Sodek said.

Last month, district board members hosted public discussion to introduce the possible establishment of the management zone during a special meeting at the Oakalla Community Center.

Board members took no action during the meeting, officials said.

“Turnout (for the special meeting) went beyond expectations with 120 people, standing room only,” Sodek recalled.

District board members plan to hold their next regular meeting 9 a.m. May 20 at district headquarters, 225 S. Pierce St. in Burnet, adjacent to the Burnet County Courthouse.
