Burnet County commissioners pay respects to late sheriff

During their recent meeting, the Burnet County commissioners paid homage to the late William T. (W.T) Smith, the former county sheriff, longtime lawman and decorated U.S. Army Vietnam veteran who died May 5 at 84.

During their recent meeting, the Burnet County commissioners paid homage to the late William T. (W.T) Smith, the former county sheriff, longtime lawman and decorated U.S. Army Vietnam veteran who died May 5 at 84.

Smith served as a county law enforcement officer from 1993 to 2003, also as the elected county sheriff from 2009 to 2016 Also during his lengthy career, Smith served with the San Antonio Police Department Criminal Intelligence, Homicide and Pa- trol divisions and earned certifications as a Master Jailer and Master Peace Officer.

County officials have flown flags at half staff since his passing.
