Man dies in Hwy 71 collision with 18-wheeler in Spicewood

A Marble Falls man died after a collision with an 18-wheeler on Texas 71 June 5.

The crash was reported at approximately 2:30 p.m. and the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

"Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) troopers responded to a two-vehicle crash that occurred on State Highway 71 near Gregg Drive (County RD 413) in Burnet County," said DPS Sgt. Billy Ray III in a statement. "Preliminary investigation indicates that a 2020 Subaru Outback was traveling eastbound, while a 2015 Peterbilt diesel tanker was traveling westbound on SH-71.

"For an unknown reason, the Subaru was traveling on the wrong side of the road, resulting in a head-on collision."

The driver of the Subaru was identified as 19-year-old Quincy Jette. The driver of the Peterbilt 18-wheeler was treated for non-incapacitating injuries. Traffic was halted and detoured for approximately two hours as crews cleared the scene.

The cause of the collision is under investigation.
