On June 7, Leon Berard celebrated his 90th birthday with family and friends at the Marble Falls Senior Activity Center.
Originally from Fall River, Mass., Leon joined the U.S. Navy in 1954 and met his soon-to-be bride on a blind date in Corpus Christi in 1958, no doubt wooing her with his 1954 Pontiac Star Chief “babe magnet.”
Together, they had six children – three girls and three boys and were then blessed with seven grandkids and three great-grandkids.
After 20 years, Leon retired from the service and moved the family to Victoria, Texas, in 1978 to be nearer to Lily’s aging parents. When it came time for Lily and Leon to retire, they chose Burnet to live out their golden years.
Leon was married 64 years when Lily passed in 2023. Nowadays, you can find Leon at the Marble Falls Senior Activity Center a couple days every week challenging his new friends to a lively card game of “hand and foot.”
Leon has been a regular at the senior center for about a year now, often arriving in his new “babe magnet” – his silver Corvette convertible.
When he’s not at the center, he’s maintaining his green energy projects and his pickup truck, and fine-tuning those card playing skills with his daughters.
