Marble Falls City Council plans to review three bids to accomplish a renovation of Bluebonnet Drive during its upcoming meeting.

Council members are scheduled to meet 6 p.m. at city hall, 800 Third Street.

According to officials, the Bluebonnet work is needed to reduce friction, reinforce concrete support and accomplish other repairs to the drive, especially between Pony Drive and FM 1431 near H-E-B groceries.

During several previous months, heavy volumes of traffic have created increased patterns of deterioration to the road and higher safety risks for motorists.

Currently, the council is leaning toward the low bid of more than $246,450 proposed by Bennett Paving for improvements to the corridor. Funding to work is expected to flow from 2023 bond sale savings, officials said.

Relief Route

Also during the meeting, the council plans to relay its formal request to Texas Department of Transportation officials, to study whether it is feasible to create a “Burnet County Relief Route” particularly to reduce traffic congestion during the next 40 years over Texas 71 and U.S. 281.

According to city planners, between now and 2065, the population of Marble Falls could rise to more than 14,000 residents, a demographic phenomenon that would probably increase demand for efficient mobility, especially for emergency services.

During its consent agenda (items passed without discussion with one sweeping vote), the council plans to approve one part-time bailiff for municipal court proceedings; also an interlocal agreement between the city and Marble Falls Independent School District to employ one juvenile case manager.
