Gov. Greg Abbott vetoed Senate Bill (SB) 3 last night, a piece of legislation that garnered significant attention over the past legislative session from supporters and detractors alike.
SB 3, otherwise known as “Banning THC in Texas,” was one of Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick’s top legislative priorities for the 89th session. Following the veto just before the June 22 midnight deadline, Patrick did not hold back on his thoughts.
“Throughout the legislative session, [Gov. Abbott] remained totally silent on Senate Bill 3, the bill that would have banned dangerous THC products in Texas. His late-night veto, on an issue supported by 105 of 108 Republicans in the legislature, strongly backed by law enforcement, many in the medical and education communities, and the families who have seen their loved ones’ lives destroyed by these very dangerous drugs, leaves them feeling abandoned,” said Patrick.
