Flash flooding washes away family’s home

In the early morning hours of Saturday, July 5, rainfall quickly turned into a nightmare for the McHam family. What began as a downpour soon became a torrent, lifting their Burnet home clean off its foundation and carrying it across the street — turning their world upside down in a matter of moments.

“At 4 a.m., you could still see the ground,” recalled Janice McHam. “Then at 5:04, we got the Burnet Alert for flooding.

We got up and started looking, and the water was already over our air conditioning vent. That’s how quick it all began.”
