Flood event prompts county disaster declaration
In the aftermath of the flood event on the Fourth of July weekend, Burnet County will contend with hundreds of thousands, if not millions of dollars, worth of infra - structure damage. Officials have started the process of receiving assistance through a disaster declaration. Contributed photos

First responders working around the clock for recovery operations

have issued an emergency disaster declaration following a weekend deluge of stormwater which has destroyed and closed roadways, damaged property and strained public infrastructure and public safety services.

Burnet County Judge Bryan Wilson signed the declaration order on July 5 just before 2 p.m. The flood event unfolded on Independence Day around 5 p.m. as the Llano River sparked the first wave of flooding. As much as 20 inches of rain in a 48 hour period sparked severe flooding once the
