Gas leak closes thoroughfare

Motorists took a few detours for about three hours July 16 after a reported gas leak shut down the intersection of U.S. 281 and RR 1431.

Both northbound and southbound lanes of U.S. 281 were closed just before 4 p.m. between FM 1431 and Broadway due to “a major gas leak”, officials reported on their social media page and in a reverse 9-1-1 robocall.

Barricades were in place on the highway and in the parking lot of Burger King, and no through traffic was allowed in the affected area.
