A multiple vehicle collision resulted in the death of five people July 25 on U.S. 281 between Burnet and Marble Falls.

According to the Department of Public Safety, a pickup truck hauling a livestock trailer collided with two vehicles, including an SUV.

“Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Troopers responded to a fatal crash that occurred on July 25, 2025, at approximately 6:00 p.m. on US 281 near Park Road 4 in Burnet County,” said DPS Sgt. Billy Ray III in a statement. “Preliminary investigation indicates that a 2018 RAM 4500 truck pulling a livestock trailer was traveling northbound on US 281 when it crossed into the southbound lanes and struck a Chevrolet Malibu head-on.

“The impact caused the truck to continue in an arc, striking a Mercedes SUV traveling behind the Malibu,” he continued. “The Mercedes overturned and caught fire. All five occupants of the Mercedes SUV were pronounced deceased at the scene.”

The occupants of the Mercedes were identified as Desiree Cervantez, Ruby Cruz, Thalia Salinas, Brianna Valadez and Jacqueline Velazco.

Traffic was stalled for over an hour until crews could clear the scene.

The investigation is continuing.
