Burnet County approves budget over sheriff’s objections

Burnet County approves budget over sheriff’s objections
The proposed budget can be changed to correct 'tweaks here and there' as long as the overall budget and tax rates remain unchanged, Burnet County Judge Bryan Wilson said.

During discussions related to the proposed Fiscal Year (FY) 2025-2026 county budget, for several minutes the Burnet County Commissioners heard pleas from the sheriff’s office for more personnel and better salary incentives.

According to the FBI, about 2.8 officers are needed to serve every 1,000 people in any jurisdiction across America, Burnet County Chief Deputy Alan Trevino told the commissioners during the Aug. 19 meeting.

Currently, official statistics show the sheriff’s office details 1.24 personnel per every 1,000 residents in Burnet County, Chief Deputy Alan Trevino told the commissioners.
