Mildred Lorene Platte passed away June 1, 2024 in Kingsland, Texas at age 92. She was a wonderful mother, sister, aunt, and friend who was always there offering support and an abundance of love.

A memorial service will be held at Kingsland Community Church at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 8, 2024. She will be laid to rest at Seaside Memorial Park in Corpus Christi at a later date.

She was born to Dr. Gustav and Ernestine Roemer in Floresville, Texas on July 29, 1931.

She spoke only German in her early years, learning English when she began elementary school. After growing up in various south Texas towns, she settled in Corpus Christi when she married Vernon Otto Platte on Dec. 6, 1952. Vernon and Mildred were blessed with their only child, Vernell Denise, in 1953.

Mildred was baptized, confirmed, and married in the Lutheran church where she was a faithful member until moving to Kingsland in 1997 to live near Vernell. She became an active member of Kingsland Community Church where she loved dearly her church family. Throughout her decades of church work, Mildred served as choir director, led circle groups, and wrote and produced programs and performances complete with elaborate costumes and props.

Family and music were important parts of Mildred’s life. She loved sharing the history of her Teltschik family and playing the Glockenspiel in the family band. She enjoyed playing music on her Rippen Upright Piano, a treasured gift from her husband.

Mildred traveled the world with her sisters and later in life with her daughter, including frequent stops at casinos. In addition, Mildred painted and crafted, spending her free time the past few years coloring elaborate pictures.

Mildred will be remembered for many things, especially her quick wit, love of fun and games, and her famous chocolate meringue pie. She was predeceased by her husband Vernon and is survived by her daughter, Vernell, twin sisters Bettie Jo Vassaur and Billie Lou Weber, many nieces and nephews, and countless friends who felt her love.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Kingsland Community Church or Texas Chiropractic College in Pasadena, Texas.
