The spirit of remembrance and healing filled Johnson Park in Marble Falls Aug. 23, as Camp Agape hosted its 12th Annual Memorial 5k. The

event brought together runners, walkers, families, and supporters to raise vital funds for Camp Agape’s grief counseling programs for children.

This year carried added significance as Camp Agape celebrated its 25th year since its founding in 2000.

Over the past quarter- century, the nonprofit has provided free grief recovery camps and programs for children ages 7 to 12 who have experienced the loss of a parent, sibling, or close loved one.

Participants had the choice of a timed 5k run/ walk, a non-timed 5k walk, or a 1-mile walk, all beginning at 8 a.m. Following the races, medals were awarded to the top three male and female runners, along with youth competitors. The largest team award went to the Fig team, who showed up strong with 32 members.

This year’s winners included:

• Male Division: 1st Carlos Olvera, 2nd Alex Payson, 3rd James Bauman;

• Female Division: 1st Kelly Nicholson, 2nd Blanca Trejo, 3rd Magnolia Payson; and

• Youth Division: 1st Johnny Barnard, 2nd Phoenix Depalme, 3rd Raelynn Escobedo.

The morning concluded with a touching memorial bubble release, a tradition symbolizing love and remembrance.

Proceeds from the event directly benefit Camp Agape’s programs, ensuring children can attend camp free of charge.

As a 501c3 nonprofit, Camp Agape continues to offer hope, healing, and a safe space for grieving children and families across Central Texas.
