The Kingsland Chamber of Commerce had a great run operating and improving the Kingsland Community Park. But now the cost of operations has outpaced their ability to maintain the venue, officials say. On Sept. 22, The Kingsland Municipal Utility District (KMUD) approved the $126,000 for the purchase of the park, following an executive session.

Kingsland Chamber President Andy Virdell explained in a statement that the deal was made for the future of the venue.

“Actively managing a public park is not a typical chamber responsibility, and it requires ongoing time and attention that goes beyond our organization’s capacity,” Virdell stated. “As trustees, our board believes KMUD is better positioned to dedicate the bandwidth and resources needed to operate and enhance the park over the long term.

“We look forward to seeing KMUD take the park to the next level in serving Kingsland residents and visitors.” (Find the complete statement on Page 4).

The venue, at 155 Lions Park Road, has the sole public boat launch on Lake LBJ in the Kingsland community.

The park also has a small pavilion, public restroom, picnic tables and a meeting room slated for renovations.

The park was deeded to the community of Kingsland (which is not incorporated) in 1962. The chamber’s board of directors was “identified as

trustees of the property,” Virdell explained. “Over the years, the chamber has maintained the park, sometimes with the help of other local groups, such as the Lions Club.”

Hundreds of thousands of dollars in improvements have been made, including an automated boat ramp pay kiosk, new boat slip amenities, park play area, picnic tables and continuing upgrades to a pavilion

The Kingsland  Community Park also  has a small pavilion,  upgraded public  restroom, picnic tables  and a Park Hall slated for  renovations.
