The Men of Faith organization will hold a community-wide breakfast on Tuesday, Oct. 21, at the Church at Horseshoe Bay Fellowship Hall. Michael Carson will be the featured speaker, taking the group through his faith journey as a 19+ year Army veteran up to his present-day Christian service. The men’s fellowship will begin at 7:30 a.m. with coffee and breakfast being served, and the program will start at 8 a.m. and end about 9 a.m. All men from the area are invited to attend.
Michael Carson was raised in the small West Texas town of Bovina. Growing up on a farm and ranch, he was shaped by hard work and community. He was a multisport athlete at Friona High School, and upon graduating, he enlisted in the Army National Guard, swearing in on the morning of 9/11 -- unaware of the profound journey that awaited him.
He went on to serve 19+ years in the U.S. Army, with 14 years on active duty. As an 11B Infantryman and longtime instructor, he trained soldiers in Urban Op- erations, Marksmanship, Heavy Weapons, Hand-to-Hand Combatives, and the Warrior Transition Course. His deployments included Iraq (2005-2006, Operation Iraqi Freedom with the 82nd Airborne Division) and Kosovo (2010-2011, KFOR 14).
