With the first week of deer management behind them, Granite Shoals officials say the program is going very well.
The new program kicked off Saturday, Sept. 28, the opening of the bowhunting season. Peter Hutnick, chairman of the city’s wildlife committee, said 90 archers have signed up as harvesters and 30 have been approved through background checks. The others are still going through background checks, Hutnick said.
As of Thursday, 35 deer had been harvested; of those, 21 had been donated to families, he said.
