County to ask for more money for fed inmates

County to ask for more money for fed inmates
According to officials, the county jail houses nearly 100 U.S. Marshal's Office prisoners, which includes ICE holds, daily. Higher payments to the jail to cover the cost of federal inmate services could add about $750,000 per year to the county jail coffer.

Burnet County might see as much as $750,000 more should a plan become definite to request

more funding for housing federal inmates.

Burnet County Commissioners Court Nov. 13 agreed to hire the Summerhill Law Firm to request from the U.S. Marshal’s Service (USMS) higher payments to the county jail for guarding federal inmates, per diem and transport services.
