Two people were airlifted to the emergency room following a multiple vehicle collision on U.S. 281 at La Ventana, south of the Lake Marble Falls Bridge.
The collision was reported around 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 19 and involved a driver allegedly fleeing from the scene of an initial collision.

Injuries were reported among a number of occupants in five vehicles, including a 3-year-old child and the driver of a suspect vehicle alleged to have caused a chain reaction involving at least three other vehicles.

“The suspect was airlifted to a hospital. He is being investigated for intoxication assault,” Marble Falls Police Capt. James Cole told The Highlander. “ The 3-year-old child was flown out to another hospital in Austin.” Her condition is pending.

According to a preliminary investigation, a Dodge pickup driven by the suspect was traveling southbound on U.S. 281.

“It crashed into a car at the intersection of Max Starcke Dam Road and 281,” Cole said of the initial collision. “The driver then fled into the La Ventana neighborhood.
“While he was in the neighborhood, he crashed into a number of street signs and lights, eventually came back out at the intersection of La Ventana and 281,” he continued. “When pulled back out, it caused a crash with three other vehicles.

“He overcorrected and crashed into one vehicle. Two others could not stop in time, and (he) collided with those vehicles.”

Traffic was delayed on U.S. 281, primarily along the southbound traffic lanes, until as late as 4 p.m. as crews cleared the scene.  More details are pending.
