While mourning the loss of life in the catastrophic floods July 4, Llano County wants to avoid the same thing happening there. So county commissioners Monday authorized County Judge Ron Cunningham to start the process of applying for a state grant for flood warning devices.
Cunningham explained that during a special session last year the Legislature approved $1 million in grants for specific counties to improve their flood warning systems. The grant, if approved, would come from the Texas Water Development Board.
The county already has 10 sirens in place as emergency warnings; residents may be familiar with their testing on a regular schedule. The grant would augment the existing system.
