The Men of Faith organization is holding a community-wide breakfast on Tuesday, Feb. 3, at The Church at Horseshoe Bay Fellowship Hall. Chet Garner, the Texas Daytripper, will be the featured speaker.
He will take the group through his faith journey -- going from being Baylor’s top law graduate to becoming a great storyteller about Texas.
The men’s fellowship will begin at 7:30 a.m. with coffee and breakfast. The program will start at 8 a.m. and end about 9 a.m.
All men from the Highland Lakes area are invited to attend.
Garner is a native Texan. He was born in Comanche and raised in Port Neches, and his love for storytelling began at a young age.
Garner didn’t get where he is the easy way, but according to him “Anything that comes easy probably ain’t worth having.”
He followed his passions to the University of Texas at Austin, graduating with a Radio-Television-Film degree.
Garner was the only film major at Baylor Law School but still graduated first in his law class.
He landed a job with the law firm of Fulbright and Jaworski LLP; however, after three years he decided it was time to take a different path, follow his passions, and simultaneously inspire folks to appreciate the beauty, history, and food of Texas.
He believes each of us has a unique gift given to us by the Lord, and it’s our responsibility to step into that gift to live life to the fullest.
Garner will share the story of how God called him away from being an attorney into life as a storyteller; how he was “called to create” and how we should look to the Lord for our own calling.
His calling led him to create a 30-minute Texas awardwinning travel show – now in its 16th season.
He also shares his stories via monthly columns for both Highways and Texas Co-Op Power magazines.
Garner is actively involved in his commu- nity and across the state.
He teaches weekly at his church, coaches his daughter’s basketball team, and spends as much time as he can playing in the backyard treehouse he built with his kids.
Garner is seeking to live life to the fullest and inspire others to do the same.
