Kingsland MUD board cancels spring election

Kingsland MUD board cancels spring election

Kingsland Municipal Utility District officials have canceled the upcoming board election.

The KMUD board voted during its Feb. 23 meeting to call off the May 2 election.

Three incumbents — Ken Black, Place 3; Kim Delz, Place 4; and Jared Fields, Place 5 are eligible to seek new four‑year terms. Both Black and Delz have opted to run again. However, Fields had chosen not to seek re‑election.

Before the Feb. 13 filing deadline, no candidates filed to challenge Black or Delz. Troy Delz filed for the open Place 5 seat.

With all three positions uncontested, the board determined the election was unnecessary.

In response to a question from Fields, Kim Delz confirmed Troy Delz is her former husband.

Turning to other matters, the board approved the pay application of more than $941,789 from Keystone Construction to continue building the new wastewater treatment plant.

Project Manager Jason Jones mentioned the approved payment brings the project to more than 69% of the entire contract amount.

“Things are moving along as expected,” Jones said. “The buildings are going up.”

Also, the board approved a change order of $71,775 for new electrical switches and other service requirements.

“It does not add any additional cost to the (entire) job,” Jones said.

Also, the board approved a bid of more than $220,000 for Arthur Blaine Construction to make improvements to the KMUD Lions Park Sports Complex, including the installation of gates, playground equipment and heavy-duty doors for restrooms.

During his report, General Manager J. Horry indicated KMUD staff employee turnover is not a concern.

“We are in great shape,” Horry said. “We have a great group of people working for us.”

During his report, Operation and Maintenance Manager Tom Stewart confirmed the existing wastewater treatment plant is “running great.” “We are putting out high-quality water,” Stewart added.

Also during the meeting, the board:

• Agreed to prevent disconnection of services during Thanksgiving and Christmas;

• Agreed to begin implementation of a solid waste services customer survey for commercial and residents within the district; and

• Annexed Royal Oaks Estates, lot 48A; Granite Shoals Cabin Sites lots 63, 64; and Lakeside Heights, Lot 179.
