“We open up our gates to serve, to help heal hearts, and create joy for the rest of the year,” said Jenn Hartner, interim executive director of Candlelight Ranch, as the ranch welcomed visitors for a day of food, music, and community on Sunday, March 1.

The 9th Annual Candlelight Ranch Chili Cook-Off and Car Show kicked off at noon on the ranch’s scenic 40 acres of Hill Country land, drawing families, chili teams, car enthusiasts, and supporters of the organization’s mission.

The annual event has become a favorite community gathering, combining friendly competition and entertainment with a deeper purpose, supporting Candlelight Ranch’s work with children with disabilities, underserved youth, veterans, and their families.

Throughout the afternoon, guests sampled a variety of chili creations prepared by dedicated teams competing for top honors, while celebrity judges carefully evaluated each entry.

Nearby, a lineup of polished classics and eye-catching custom vehicles drew steady crowds at the car show, with owners eager to share the stories behind their rides.

Live music from Austin- based country artist Brandon Rosage provided a lively soundtrack as visitors explored the ranch grounds.

Families spread out across the property to enjoy the activities, including zip lining and the ever-popular Chili Bean Junction, a kids’ area designed to keep younger guests engaged and laughing.

Guests also gathered near the grill where volunteers served hot brisket sandwiches, while two open bars kept glasses full and conversations flowing.

Beyond the food and festivities, the afternoon offered many attendees a chance to experience the ranch itself, welcoming spaces designed to help children and families connect with nature.

Candlelight Ranch’s programs focus on creating educational and nature-based experiences that encourage growth, exploration, and healing.

Through hands-on outdoor activities and inclusive programming, the organization provides opportunities for children and families of all abilities and backgrounds to build confidence, find community, and experience the restorative power of the natural world.

Events like the Chili Cook-Off and Car Show play an important role in sustaining that mission. Every ticket purchased, every bowl of chili served, and every raffle ticket sold helps ensure that the ranch can continue offering programs throughout the year.

As the afternoon drew to a close, Hartner reflected on the spirit of the gathering and the generosity of those who attended.

“Thank you all for purchasing your tickets, for bringing your chili, your cars, and your hearts to the ranch,” she said. “Every dollar that you give, that you have given and that you will continue to give, stays here, at this magical, beautiful place.”
