Elderly Spicewood man dies in FM 1431 collision

An elderly man died, following a collision April 17 between a passenger vehicle and a pickup in Marble Falls.
The collision occurred at 9:45 a.m.  Friday  at the intersection of Avenue L and FM 1431. 
“The investigation revealed that Mark Schultz, 80, of Spicewood, was driving a 2015 Hyundai Sonata northbound on Avenue L. The Hyundai turned onto FM 1431 and was struck by a pickup truck traveling eastbound,” said Marble Falls Police Capt. James Cole, in a statement. “[T}he driver of the pickup truck was not injured.”
Pct. 3 Justice of the Peace Jane Marie Hurst pronounced the victim dead at the scene.
Traffic was halted in the westbound lanes for at least two hours as authorities investigated and crews cleared the scene.
Around 11:30, traffic was rerouted away from both east- and westbound lanes as the vehicles were removed from the state highway.
A final report with more details is pending.
Along with Marble Falls Police Department, Marble Falls Fire Rescue, Marble Falls Area EMS, Burnet County Sheriff’s Office and the Texas Department of Public Safety responded to the crash.

According to police, the driver of the pickup, which collided with the Hyundai, was uninjured. Connie Swinney/The Highlander
