Community Flag Display project to kindle patriotism

Community Flag Display project to kindle patriotism

The sight of American flags waving proudly in the Texas breeze has become a familiar tradition across the Highland Lakes.

Every patriotic hol- iday, hundreds of flags suddenly appear in front of local businesses, memorials, and gathering places, creating a powerful reminder of the freedoms we enjoy and the people who have served to protect them.

If you’ve ever noticed those displays and wondered who makes it happen, the answer is the Highland Lakes Kiwanis Club.

Now, thanks to a new collaboration between the Highland Lakes Kiwanis Club and the Marble Falls Parks Department, that tradition is about to grow even bigger.

This year, a brandnew Community Flag Display will debut at Lakeside Park in Marble Falls. The inaugural display will launch on Fourth of July as part of America’s 250th birthday observance, creating what promises to become a patriotic landmark in the Hill Country. From there, the display will continue to appear throughout the year on seven national holidays.

For years, the Highland Lakes Kiwanis Club has proudly operated its popular Community Flag Program, placing Ameri- can flags throughout Mar ble Falls, Horseshoe Bay, Meadowlakes, and Cottonwood Shores. The program has become one of the club’s signature fundraisers and tradition that honors veterans, celebrates America, and supports local youth programs.

The new Lakeside Park display offers an exciting opportunity for everyone in the community to participate. Businesses, families, individuals, civic groups, and organizations can sponsor a flag for $70

per year. Sponsored flags will be displayed during seven patriotic holidays, including Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Patriot Day (9/11), and Veterans Day. Sponsors will also receive recognition through display signage as well as acknowledgments on the Kiwanis website and media promotions.

Think of it like sponsoring a brick to help build a community center or dedicating a park bench in memory of a loved one. You’re helping create something lasting that the entire community can enjoy.

Every sponsored flag becomes part of a larger display that symbolizes unity, gratitude, and pride in our country.

Every dollar stays right here in Marble Falls. All proceeds gen- erated through the flag sponsorship program go directly back into the community through classroom grants and student scholarships. The club has a long history of investing in local students and organizations, helping provide opportunities that make a real difference in young people’s lives.

And when it comes to the work involved, sponsors don’t have to lift a finger. Kiwanis volun teers handle everything, including purchasing flags, installation, main tenance, setup, takedown, and storage. It’s a true labor of love performed by community members who believe in giving back and honoring the nation.

While the Kiwanis flag program has tradi tionally attracted strong support from local businesses, interest from residents has continued to grow. Many people have asked for a way to spon- sor a flag personally, whether to honor a family member who served in the military, recognize a veteran, celebrate a loved one, or simply be part of something meaningful. The new Lakeside Park display makes that possible.

Imagine sponsoring a flag on behalf of your family. Imagine honoring a parent, grandparent, spouse, or child who served our country. Imagine walking through Lakeside Park on a patriotic holiday and seeing hundreds of American flags standing togeth er against the backdrop of Marble Falls. That’s something special.

With strong community support, this display has the potential to become a destination attraction during patriotic holidays, drawing visitors from across the region while creating unforgettable photo opportunities and community gatherings. More importantly, it will serve as a visible reminder of what brings us together.

Because let’s be honest, there’s something powerful about seeing a sea of red, white, and blue waving in the wind. It sparks pride. It honors sacrifice. It reminds us of our shared history and our shared future.
