“The city of Marble Falls Parks and Recre ation Department regrets to announce the cancellation of this year’s 4th of July parade due to insuf- ficient entries," according to a statement on July 1. “Despite concerted efforts to encourage participation and celebrate our nation’s independence in grand style, the depart- ment received fewer en tries than anticipated.
“This unfortunate circumstance has left orga- nizers with no choice but to cancel the event.”
Initially scheduled for the morning of Thursday, July 4, the parade was set to be an additional feature of the municipality’s celebration of Independence Day in the Marble Falls community.
“The committee extends its sincere gratitude to all individuals and organizations who expressed interest in participating in this year’s parade and made efforts to participate,” the statement continued. “Plans are underway to ensure that next year’s celebration will be bigger and better.”
Despite the cancellation of the patriotic parade, the fireworks show is expected to continue as planned.
“Residents and visitors are encouraged to continue to come out to the city’s 4th of July Fireworks and Celebration at Lakeside Park … where residents and guests can partake in a free swim day at Lakeside Pool,” according to the statement.
Lakeside Pool as well as the fireworks display at dusk can be enjoyed at Lakeside Park, 305 Buena Vista Drive The free swim is from noon to 5 p.m.
Attendees can also enjoy food and beverages from food vendors, listen to live music from Dysfunkshun Junkshun and watch fireworks launched from a barge on Lake Marble Falls.
