“Bugs Every Gardener Should Know” is the title of Molly Keck’s presentation at the Marble Falls Public Library Thursday, August 15, from 2-3 p.m., sponsored by the Highland Lakes Master Gardeners. The presentation is free and open to the public. The library is located at 101 Main St. in Marble Falls.
Keck, a Texas A&M University graduate and a board-certified entomologist, comes to Burnet County from the Bexar County AgriLife Extension office with comments and answers to the inevitable questions about the various varieties of wildlife in our yards and gardens.
Keck is also an Integrated Pest Management Program (IPM) Specialist, a practice which teaches ways to deal with pests, disease and weeds naturally and to avoid pesticides. A first step in implementing a IPM program is to correctly identify the culprits. The goal is not to poison, but to suppress population levels for the insects and arthropods you don’t want and to create favorable, conditions for what you do want using environmentally friendly practices.
