KMUD allots $15K towards tech upgrade

The Kingsland Municipal Utility District (KMUD) Board recently agreed to hire a new technology company to handle tech products including a new KMUD website. The Kingsland Municipal Utility District (KMUD) Board recently agreed to hire a new technology company to handle tech products including a new KMUD website.

During its July 22 meeting, the directors accepted a proposal from Civic Plus, a firm based in Kansas that streamlines computer software especially for local government agencies.

“Our current site needs an update,” KMUD General Manager J. Horry told The Highlander. “And, they (Civic Plus) will give us total control.”

Civic Plus will charge $15,000 to install the software, Horry said.

“Their yearly fee will be based on what we put into it,” he added.

The new KMUD site is anticipated to go online within the next three to six months, the general manager added.

Tax Rate

Also during the meeting, the board renewed a contract with the Llano County Commissioners Court and the Llano County Tax Assessor-Collector for assessment services during Fiscal Year 2025, set to begin Oct. 1.

“They collect taxes, and they pay us what they collect,” Horry said.

Currently, KMUD charges a little more than 17 cents per $100 of property valuation, he pointed out.

Probably, the board will not propose the FY 2025 tax rate until sometime next month, he said.

“As soon as we get the (county appraisal district tax roll) numbers, we will hold a public meeting,” Horry said. “I am anticipating mid-to-late August.”

Time and date of the meeting will be posted at several appropriate and familiar places after it is scheduled, he added.

Also during the meeting, the board approved the annexation of properties to the district including: Royal Oaks Estates, unit 1, lot 159; unit 5, lots 821, 822, 823, 824, 825, 826, 885, 886, 887, 888, 889 and 890; unit 11, lots 127, 128, 129, 130, 131, 132 and; Granite Shoals Cabin, unit 1, lots 37, 38.
