Significant rainfall brings relief to drought conditions

It has been a while since we last saw the floodgates in operation on the Highland Lakes chain of lakes. One photo shows one floodgate opened July 24 on Starke Dam. The LCRA has indicated that they are opening up to three floodgates at Starke before the flood waters have passed; only one floodgate was partially opened on the Wirtz Dam.

The locals refer to Wirtz Dam as the upper dam, which is situated between Lake LBJ and Marble Falls, while Starke Dam (lower dam) is located between Lake Marble Falls and Lake Travis.

Although there might be a slight rise in Lake Marble Falls, no flooding is anticipated.
