Molly Myrick scored a season-high 19 points and the Lady Mustangs held Burnet scoreless in the third quarter to lead Marble Falls to a 57-35 victory over Burnet Tuesday night at Burnet High School.

Myrick had hit five of seven shots from the floor and was four of five on 3-pointers.

The senior also hit five of six free throws. She was hot.

Marble Falls (6-3) took command early while both teams showed a little jitters. But the Lady Mustangs built an early 8-0 lead and closed strongly in the first quarter to hold an 19-8 advantage at the end of the first quarter.

Myrick, who came into the game averaging 6.7 points, made her first three shots of the game, including a 3-pointer from the left wing with 5:46 left in the first quarter for a 5-0 lead and then drained another from just off the top of the key with 1:02 left for a 17-8 Lady Mustangs lead.

At the end of the first quarter the Lady Mustangs were hitting 50 percent from the floor on six of 12 attempts while Burnet had a pair of 3-pointers among its three makes in 11 field goal attempts.

The Lady Mustangs put three players in double figures with Myrick and post players Mya McMillian and Aspen Woerner adding 15 and 10 points, respectively.

Marble Falls dominated on the glass, doubling up with a 40-20 advantage. McMillian had 12 rebounds and Aubree Adams had seven to lead the way.

The defense was key with the Lady Mustangs holding down Burnet’s best player Marissa Escamilla to four field goals in 22 attempts.

“That’s pretty good defense,’’ Marble Falls coach John Berkman said. “When you can hold the best player to four makes in 22 attempts, that means we’re making her take shots out of her comfort zone.’’

The Mustangs outscored Burnet, 13-0, in the third quarter.

The high marks of the third quarter were made by post players Woerner and Eileen Neri. The Lady Mustangs were able to draw a pair of charges on late possessions. The first one by Neri when she held her ground on a drive by the athletic Escamilla.

Then in the final seconds Neri and Woerner both were responsible for picking up a charging call against Burnet.

The Lady Mustangs led 48-25 going into the fourth quarter.

With just three minutes to go in the quarter, Aubree Adams put on a nice spin move, twisting her body back to the goal for a layin and a 44-25 lead.

Once again the Lady Mustangs showed balance with eight players scoring.
