Thomas Porter Ashcroft

January 8, 1934 — July 10, 2018

Thomas Porter Ashcroft died July 10, 2018, in Austin, Texas, following a short illness. He was 84.

Tom was born on Jan. 8, 1934, in Winnfield, Louisiana, to his parents, Murden and Gladys Ashcroft. He grew up in Minden, Louisiana, along with two brothers and one sister. He attended Louisiana Tech University for several years before serving two years in the United States Navy. Upon his discharge, he moved to Dallas, Texas, where he met and married Mary Sonnenberg in 1960, and welcomed their beloved daughter Annalisa a few years later. The Ashcrofts moved to Richmond, Texas, in 1969, where Tom spent 30 years working at Texas Instruments. After retirement, they moved to the beautiful Hill Country, settling in Marble Falls.

One of Tom’s favorite achievements was his graduation from Houston Baptist University in 1984, barely beating daughter Lisa on her graduation in 1986 from Texas State.

Tom was active with the Highland Lakes Master Naturalists and also discovered a new love, spending a few years substitute teaching the younger grades in the Marble Falls school district. He was an active member of Trinity Episcopal Church, continuing to live out his life-long faith in God.

Tom is survived by his wife Mary, daughter Lisa, sister Marie Dixon, and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service is planned for Tuesday, July 17, at 2 p.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church, 909 Ave. D, Marble Falls. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Trinity.
