August 5, 1958 — August 2, 2018

Susan Jean Mosher Rowan, age 59, died peacefully at home and in her sleep after a long illness on Wednesday Aug. 2, 2018.

Susan was born on Aug. 5, 1958 in San Antonio, Texas. She spent much of her childhood in Karnes City, Texas, and graduated from Victoria High School in 1976. Susan was a proud Kappa Kappa Gamma at the University of Texas in Austin and graduated in 1980.

Susan was best known for her namesake ‘Camp Susan’ at her lake house in Marble Falls, Texas. Her older brother, Ed, named it that after many summers of her entertaining his children, their friends and other family there. At Camp Susan, she opened her home and lakeside oasis to everyone who knew her. Star-gazing, s’more cooking, canoe exploring, bat cave expeditions and jet ski adventures; these were the many memories she helped to create for all who knew her. She cooked many amazing meals for family, friends and strangers alike. Her skills in the kitchen were unrivaled. That was one of her favorite ways to show her love for others. We were all so blessed to be on the receiving end of those delicious talents.

She made us laugh constantly with her special wit and humor. Her bubbly and warm personality is one that anyone who encountered her will never forget. So many of her ‘Susan-isms’ will be carried on for generations to come: ‘What’s the dill pickle?’ And ‘okeydokey artichokey’, among many, many others. Aunt Twirl, as some of us called her, was especially talented on the dance floor and also with a rifle. A true Texas gal. Susan thrived at everything she attempted. What a precious person she was to so many. We will all miss her deeply and remember her fondly.

Susan spent many years loving on her fur babies; pets that she rescued, adopted and shared her big giant heart with. They surely have greeted her in heaven with purrs and wagging tails.

Susan is survived by her younger sister, Fran Walter (Eric), and their children Ed, Ethan, Allison and Olivia Walter; her niece, Leigh Rowan (Cody Sims), and their children Dash and Storey; her nephew, Chase Rowan (Ashley) and their children Alyssa and Ranger; her stepfather, Dick Kendall; stepsisters Susan K. Morrow-Johnson and Peggy Kendall; cousin Blake Mosher (Melanie) and their children Elaina, Courtney, Andrea, Trent and Julie. She is also survived by her precious fur babies, Momo and Lilly.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Jean Mosher Kendall; her father, Thomas Winder Rowan; her older brother, Thomas Edward Rowan; her grandfather, Edward J. Mosher; and her grandmother, Mildred Sears Mosher.

A private family memorial was held in Houston, Texas, on Sunday, Aug.12. In lieu of flowers, Susan would wish for donations to be made to the animal welfare charity of your choice.
