Marble Falls High School boys basketball head coach Matt Bailey has accepted the head coaching position at Tomball Memorial High School in the Houston metropolitan area.

Bailey coached the Mustangs for three seasons, and posted back-to-back winning seasons for the first time in over a decade.

He said he accepted the position at Tomball Memorial because of the school's potential.

I think the future is very bright there,” he said. “They have 2,500 kids next year, and it's going to continue to grow. From an athletic standpoint, that's always intriguing.”

Tomball Memorial has moved from 3A to 6A in just eight years, and the growing pains were apparent last season. The Wildcats finished 9-22 with a 1-15 district record.

It's been up-and-down for them,” Bailey said. “They wanted a guy who will come in and change the culture. My track record says I've done that at the last three schools I've been at.”

Bailey said informing his players was difficult, but he and his family will return to Marble Falls periodically to visit and vacation.

There are some kids I'm very close to; some of them are like sons to me,” he said. “It's going to be hard to leave them, but that's part of [coaching].” . .  .
