Clifton Douglas Townsend passed away May 13, 2019, surrounded by his family in Marble Falls, Texas after an extended battle with cancer.

Cliff was born on April 24, 1932, to Willie and Gwen Townsend on their family farm near Hamlin, Texas. He was the youngest of five children, graduated from Hamlin High School in 1949, and served in the Army 82nd Airborne during the Korean conflict where he achieved the rank of 1st Sargent. During his service in the Army he met and married his wife, Shirley Ann, of Richmond, Virginia. Cliff was the first in his family to go to college when he graduated from Texas Tech University with a Business Degree. He worked for El Paso Products Company in El Paso and Odessa, Texas. Cliff started Central Petroleum in Odessa, and moved to Dallas in 1975. He later worked with The Huntsman Corporation. He married J.J. Frye in 2002, and they retired to Marble Falls, Texas in 2005.

Cliff was passionate about life. He had a strong faith in Jesus Christ, loved his family and friends, and was active at First Baptist Church, Marble Falls. Cliff was also a gifted golfer, and took great satisfaction in dominating nearly every family member and friend he played with.

He was preceded in death by his wife, J.J. Cliff; and is survived by his children: daughter, Karen and husband William Reitmeyer, son Steve and wife Patty Townsend, son Jeff and wife Holly Townsend; his brother, Weldon and wife Wanda Townsend; his wonderful and special friend, Patsy Carey; his grandchildren and their families: Sara Ackland, Rebekah Anderson, Rachel Roth, Hannah Smith, Bailey Townsend, Reagan McGinnis, Kellan McGinnis; nine great-grandchildren; and his favorite dog, Sam.

A memorial service will be held at the First Baptist Church of Marble Falls on June 1, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers Cliff’s family asks that donations be made to The American Cancer Society (
