Granite Shoals debates necessity of committee liaisons

Discussion concerning the clarification of the role of Granite Shoals City Council members serving as liaisons to city boards and committees evolved into a broader debate on July 23 about the necessity of the position at all.

The debate during the recent council meeting revealed little consistency in how different liaisons go about their responsibilities in being the designated contact for committees who provide recommendations to the body for a vote.

One council member is assigned to each committee – comprised of appointees – as liaison.

Mayor Pro Tem Jim Davant suggested the council discuss and define the responsibilities and limitations of committee liaisons and possibly appoint council members to the two vacant spots.

At the last meeting, I presented the idea that the liaison is there in an advisory role,” he said. “It can't be a personal agenda but to serve as a communication tool to both the committee and the council.” . . .
